The caucuses are open to registered Democrats.

If you are:

  • Not registered in your town of residence, you can register on Caucus day (or earlier).
  • Registered in your town, but not enrolled in a party, you can enroll as a Democrat on Caucus day (or earlier).
  • Age 17, but will be 18 by November 8th, 2016, you can provisionally register on Caucus day (or earlier).
  • Currently registered as a Republican or Green-Independent, you had until Saturday, Feb 20 (or the last day your town office was open that week) to change your registration at your town office.

On Caucus day, registration will be available from 30 minutes to one hour prior to the Caucus start time. (Please verify with your caucus convener or town clerk.) Balloting for Presidential Preference will generally take place about 30 minutes after Caucus start time.

Important dates are:

  • March 6 (Sunday): Maine Democratic Municipal Caucuses
  • March 13 (Sunday): Snow date for Knox County Caucuses
  • May 6 - 7 (Fri - Sat): Maine Democratic State Convention, Portland
  • July 25 - 28 (Mon - Thu): Democratic National Convention, Philadelphia

All registered Democrats are encouraged to attend their Municipal Caucus in support of their preferred presidential candidate. This is also the first step for anyone wishing to be a delegate to the State Convention in Portland and the National Convention in Philadelphia.
