NEWS from August 2009. (updated: 09.30.2010, 13:25)
  • Health Care Ad Wars. CNN indentifies the groups behind them in this report, and a retired insurance company executive talks about insurance company control of the health care debate on CNN here.
  • Lobster Bake Parking! Overwhelmed by success and fine weather, the Bake Committee asks that attendees car pool wherever possible, or meet others at the Owl's Head Community Building, which is at 224 Ash Point Drive, and car pool from there.
  • John Syrett Lobster Bake Sunday, August 16th. This is our annual fundraiser honoring an old friend. Hobnob with Chellie Pingree, Steve Rowe and other luminaries. Details, sponsorship and ticket info here....
  • Be sure to check our Calendar for new events that don't always get displayed on this page. September is shaping up as an event-filled month.
  • Our last KCDC meeting was Tuesday, August 11, at Stella Maris House in Rockland.

We elected (after an eternity with the position unfilled) a new Corresponding Secretary , Karen Brace of Hope, who received a round of applause when she said, ...writing press releases is second nature to me..., and a new Treasurer, Mike Dunn of Warren. Thanks again to our outgoing treasurer, Richard Ogle. The nominating committee could not present a candidate for Chair; nominated from the floor, Hugh Magbie said he would consider the position after consulting with his family. Thanks again to outgoing Chair, Mary Forristall, who reiterated her regret at not being to continue due to the demands of her business and husband George's health.

Other sad news was Kathie Johnson's resignation as Fundraising Chair due to her health. We will sorely miss Kathie's tireless efforts and excellent results in fundraising. Thanks, Kathie.

Thanks to Barb Klapprodt, who presented the results of her search for a meeting place, recommending the Rockland Library with meetings to start earlier to compensate for the library's 8:00 p.m. closing. Members present ultimately voted to continue meeting at Stella Maris House, whose recent renovations (including new carpeting, kitchen appliances and cleaned drapes) eliminated second-hand smoke odors.

Mike Mayo's KCDC Services Policy was adopted with minor changes (see the agenda for the original text).

    The meeting agenda is here.

  • Labor Day Weekend Yard Sale at Mike Mayo's in Thomaston to support Midcoast for Marriage Equality. Call Mike to discuss your donated items (354-8781).
  • Steve Rowe 'Fun' raiser September 16th in Thomaston. More details TBA from Mike Mayo.
